One Laptop Per Child: Social Service Inspired Technology Advancement

On Thursday’s episode of Technology Today, we received an update on the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) initiative from Mr. Satish Jha, a friend of the show. OLPC aims to provide a laptop to each elementary-age child in the world. The advances OLPC has made in computing hardware and elementary school level educational software is impressive.

I’m even more impressed that this is a project where advancing the current state of technology is both a central focus of the charitable endeavor as well as a means for achieving a greater good – improving educational opportunities for children around the world.

This is a reminder that technology is intended to – and can – solve the problems of the world.

For more information on OLPC, and to join or contribute to the cause, visit We’ll continue to follow OLPC, and invite Satish back to the show to continue giving us updates on his progress with this initiative. We’ll also search out additional global initiatives that are improving the lives of people through technology. If you know of or are involved with any such initiatives, please get in touch with us. We’d love to hear your story.
