Barriers to Health Technology??

On this Thursday’s episode, we’re joined by Dr. Stephen Axelrod, CEO of a company called TabSafe that has developed a technology-based solution to assist senior take their medications on time and in accordance with their prescriptions.

That may not seem like much, but such a solution may actually lead to significant cost savings for the overall health care industry.

In the United States, the incorrect taking of medication accounts for 40% of all hospital admissions among the elderly, and almost a quarter of new resident admissions to assisted living and skilled nursing facilities directly result from taking medication properly.

Those are significant financial costs and dramatic lifestyle changes for the elderly and their families that TabSafe hopes to alleviate with its device, also called TabSafe.

We’ll talk with Dr. Axelrod about TabSafe, as well as the future of Health IT. We’ll also discuss with him an interesting approach he’s following in marketing this device. The company is not seeking Medicare coverage for the purchase and use of the TabSafe. We’ll ask him why, and how they plan to penetrate the market and get this device in the hands of consumers.
