Does Health IT actual Raise Medical Costs?

“We will wield technology’s wonders to raise health care’s quality and lower its costs. ” – President Obama

The text above comes from President Obama’s inaugural address on January 20, 2009 and has been a running theme in the discussions about reforming health care: that introducing technology into medicine will simultaneously increase quality and lower costs as technology has done in numerous other industries.

But, is that actually the case? On todays’ episode, we talk with Dr. Peter W. Groeneveld, as Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine as well as a Staff Physician at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center, whose research suggests that technology is actual a driver of increased costs within the medical industry.

Join us Thursday at 4pm on Technology Today as we look at whether Health technologies can deliver on the President’s promise made two years ago.
